A Summary Of The Reign Of Aegon Iii Targaryen

Aegon III Targaryen: The Unlucky King

A Summary of the Reign of Aegon III Targaryen

Aegon III Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Unlucky, was the seventh Targaryen king to sit on the Iron Throne. His reign was marked by numerous political conflicts, and he became known for his unfortunate nickname.

Early Life and Regency

Aegon III was the son of Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. He became king at the age of 10, following the death of his father in 129 AC. Due to his young age, a regency council was established to rule in his stead. The regency lasted from 131 AC to 136 AC, during which time the kingdom was plagued by the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war between the supporters of Aegon and his half-sister, Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The Dance of the Dragons

The Dance of the Dragons was a bloody conflict that lasted for two years. It resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, including Aegon's mother and many of his supporters. The war ended with Rhaenyra's defeat and Aegon's coronation as king.

Reign and Death

Aegon III's reign was marked by attempts to rebuild the kingdom after the war. He pardoned many of his former enemies and worked to restore peace and stability to the Seven Kingdoms. However, his reign was also marked by misfortune. He lost two of his children in childhood, and his own health was poor. He died at the age of 39, leaving behind a legacy of a troubled and unlucky king.
