Sparta and Bologna Secure Unexpected Victories in Champions League Qualifiers

Sparta Prague Breaks Salzburg's Unbeaten Streak

Sparta Prague, a Czech football club, made history by defeating Austrian giants FC Salzburg in the first leg of their Champions League qualifying tie. The match, played at the Generali Arena in Prague, saw Sparta emerge victorious with a 2-1 scoreline, ending Salzburg's impressive 15-match unbeaten run in European competition.

Salzburg, who were heavily favored to advance, created numerous chances but failed to capitalize. Sparta, on the other hand, took advantage of their limited opportunities, with Tomas Soucek and Vaclav Kadlec scoring in the 28th and 63rd minutes, respectively. Salzburg's only goal came courtesy of Sekou Koita in the 68th minute, which proved to be a consolation.

Sparta's victory has given them a slim advantage heading into the second leg, which will take place next week in Salzburg. The Czech team will be hoping to hold on to their lead and secure a place in the next round of qualifying.

Bologna Stuns Shakhtar Donetsk

In another surprising result, Italian side Bologna held Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Champions League qualifying tie. The match, played at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium in Bologna, saw the home team take an early lead through Riccardo Orsolini in the 17th minute.

Shakhtar, who are among the favorites to win the Ukrainian Premier League this season, fought back and equalized through Lassina Traore in the 35th minute. Both teams had chances to win the match in the second half, but neither side could find a breakthrough.

Bologna's draw against Shakhtar is a significant result for the Italian club, who are returning to European competition after a long absence. The second leg will be played next week in Ukraine, where Bologna will be hoping to secure a place in the next round of qualifying.
